The celebrated visual artist Wayne Thiebaud was born on November 15, 1920 so, fittingly, Tasende Gallery in La Jolla will celebrate his centennial birthday with a tribute exhibition.
Titled Cheers to 100 Years, the show will highlight nine works dating from 1961-2016. They are all from the Tasende Gallery collection and include oils on canvas and board, drawings in ink, watercolor, and pencil, and a hand-worked lithograph and monotype. They are displayed only for exhibition. The presentation is also on view online. A recipient of the National Medal of Arts in 1994, Thiebaud has received many other awards, honorary degrees, and distinctions. In addition to painting scenes of lush landscapes and dynamic cityscapes, Thiebaud has contributed ten covers to The New Yorker’s annual food issue, and his work is in museums and private collections. One of his paintings recently sold for $18 million. Darlene G. Davies
