Champions of Scouting

Scouting America, San Diego-Imperial Council will recognize biotech industry pioneer and civic leader Joe Panetta at its annual Champions of Scouting Celebration.

Panetta, who recently retired as President and CEO of Biocom California, is widely credited with transforming San Diego into one of the nation’s leading life science hubs. During his 25-year tenure, he expanded Biocom’s membership tenfold, launched educational foundations for STEM workforce development, and helped secure California’s place on the global biotech map. “Through his work, Joe Panetta has not only led an industry, he’s shaped a community and inspired the next generation of leaders,” says Sean Roy, CEO and Scout Executive of SDIC. The Champions of Scouting event honors local leaders whose values and achievements reflect the core mission of Scouting: service, integrity, and leadership.
