The San Diego Museum of Art invites the community to welcome the opening of Korea in Color: A Legacy of Auspicious Images with a new opening celebration, Art Party, on October 26 from 7:30-10:30pm.
The exhibition will make its U.S. debut at SDMA on view from October 28, 2023 through March 3, 2024, after traveling from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Gwacheon in South Korea (MMCA), and will showcase contemporary works in dialogue with historical masterpieces.
Art Party will set the tone for a vibrant evening celebration through color and the legacy of symbolic imagery in Korean painting. The event will offer an indoor/outdoor experience with an open-air activity terrace in addition to festivities in the museum’s rotunda and gallery spaces. Attendees are encouraged to impress in colorful attire and be delighted by an array of experiences such as opening night preview of Korea in Color: A Legacy of Auspicious Images, plus insights from museum docents who will be available for art dialogue throughout the evening. Guests will also enjoy signature cocktails from local Korean brands themed on the Korea in Color exhibition, tastings and snacks from local restaurants including Woomiok, Glass Box, Panama 66, Zen Modern Asian Bistro, and KoreaCrate, high-tech cotton candy creations from Sweet Art Cotton Candy, colorful video filming with Hypno Photo Booth, live painting by Korean-American muralist Kimchi Juice, a hands-on opportunity to explore flora and fauna in Korean art using holographic watercolors and collages to create unique landscapes, music by DJ KSLY, and KPOP glitter eye makeup by GLMR.
