A Walk With Yáamay
New Village Arts invites the community to experience A Walk With Yáamay, a series of free, site-specific guided art walks that blend Indigenous poetry, music, and storytelling with the natural beauty of North County.
Curated by Camaray Davalos, jovanny perez, and Juan A. Reynoso, the program centers Indigenous voices and perspectives, weaving together poetry, song, and movement to create a space for connection between participants, the land, and their own origin stories. Presented in collaboration with Queer Sol Collective, this immersive, participatory experience is inspired by Yáamay: An Anthology of Feminine Perspectives Across Indigenous California and centers Indigenous voices through movement, reflection, and connection to the land. Each walk offers a unique thematic journey—from dreamlike reflection at Leo Carrillo Ranch Park (May 17, led by Alexis Munoa Dyer alongside mentee artist Hezekiah Santiago), to themes of growth and resilience at Agua Hedionda Lagoon (May 24, led by Alexis Munoa Dyer and Genevra Munoa), culminating in a celebration of collective memory at Buena Vista Lagoon (June 20, led by Alexis Munoa Dyer and Nube Hawk Cruz). Participants receive a journal and anthology to engage more deeply in the experience. Free to attend.
