Surf for CF is a fun and meaningful way to harness the connection between surfing and the drive for a cure for cystic fibrosis, a progressive genetic condition that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs.

In the early 2000s, doctors in Australia discovered a link between the salt water and lung health in their CF patients who surfed, leading to the development of a new treatment called hypertonic saline that’s now used by thousands of people with CF worldwide. This inspired a local family to create the country’s first Surf for CF event in 2016, shortly after their newborn was diagnosed with the disease. The annual event features surf lessons for people living with CF and an open-registration team surf contest on foam boards. All funds raised benefit the CF Foundation’s ongoing research for treatment and ultimately, a cure. Sponsorships, surfers, and spectators are welcome.
