Featured Photo Editors’ Pick — Venue Extraordinaire: The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park When news of the forthcoming Rady Shell at Jacobs Park debuted, it brought back fond memories of attending al fresco Summer Pops concerts with my parents decades ago. Designed by Tucker Sadler Architects, the visually striking $85 million venue in the heart of the Embarcardero is the summer home of the San Diego Symphony. It is also available year-round for use by nonprofits, schools, and individuals, with public walkways, dining pavilions, and sweeping views of the waterfront and Downtown San Diego — a truly exquisite place to create new memories with the next generation of music lovers. theshell.org M.P.

Recognizing the best of the best in San Diego, according to readers as well as those of us at Ranch & Coast, is an especially unique honor this year. Perhaps it is because we have been reminded of — and want to celebrate — just how great we have it, or because it’s a deserved testament to how sunny San Diegans shine even on some darker days. Whatever the reason, this list represents not what is merely good, but what is superlative in our corner of the world: the people and places who improve, enhance, and beautify how we work, play, live, and thrive here at home.
