Nature’s Egg Dyeing Party

Published

Spring has sprung in San Diego, and The Red Door Restaurant & Wine Bar team has planned a special event to teach you and your family how to safely dye fresh eggs the natural way with a Nature’s Egg Dyeing Party on Saturday, April 12, from 10:30am to 12:30pm. It’s time to get crafty and get in the spring season spirit. Lunch with your kiddos is included.

Instead of buying a chemical-ridden kit this year, chef Karrie Hills will walk you through Egg Dyeing 101 and demonstrate how to dye eggs with colorful, organic ingredients including turmeric, cabbage, beets, coffee, and blueberries. For $20, you’ll participate in the workshop, receive three organic eggs for dyeing and a selection of natural colors to dabble in, a tasty family lunch, and your choice of a beverage. And, little tykes under two years of age can participate for half the ticket cost ($10). Chef Hills will even tell you what herbs, already in your cabinet, are ideal for coloring, as well as discuss other homegrown ways to beautify your eggs. Normally in charge of chaperoning the big hunt? Fear not. If an unsupervised tot breaks loose and gets his hands on an egg this year, it won’t be plastic or toxic.

The Red Door is located at 741 W. Washington Street in the historic Mission Hills district. (www.thereddoorsd.com)
