Approximately 1 billion people do not have access to eye care or prescription glasses. Solo Eyewear has its sights set on changing that — the San Diego-based company has launched the Kickstarter project, an opportunity for the public to pre-order the latest Solo styles online, thus helping fund eyeglasses and eye surgeries for those in need. Co-founder Jenny Amaraneni notes, “As recent college graduates we are inspired to create an affordable, sustainable approach to give the gift of sight and allow people to be a part of something that is bigger than themselves.” To date, Solo Eyewear has funded 750 pairs of eyeglasses that reached 12 countries and 105 cataract surgeries.
