Fifth Annual Mamas Pie In The Sky Thanksgiving Bake Sale

 

Mama’s Kitchen presents the fifth annual Mama’s Pie in the Sky Thanksgiving Bake Sale to benefit Mama’s Kitchen — a San Diego-based free, countywide home-delivered meals program for individuals and families affected by AIDS or cancer. Through November 22, Mama’s Pie in the Sky is offering fresh pumpkin, pecan, apple, and sugar-free apple pies for $20, with all proceeds going directly into funding thousands of hot and nutritious Mama’s Kitchen meals. Many of San Diego’s top pastry chefs, caterers, and bakeries donate traditional Thanksgiving pies for this annual sale, and volunteers will deliver the pies to more than 20 sites throughout the county for pickup on Wednesday, November 25.

 

“Last year we sold an impressive 3,600 pies through the Mama’s Pie in the Sky Bake Sale and we hope to increase that number this year,” notes Alberto Cortés, executive director of Mama’s Kitchen. “It is tremendously rewarding to provide nutritious meals, comfort, and hope to fellow community members affected by AIDS or cancer. We would like to thank Wells Fargo, this year’s presenting sponsor, for supporting our cause and permitting us to use 18 Wells Fargo branches throughout the county as pie pickup sites.”

 

Mama’s Kitchen is leading up to its 20th anniversary in 2010, and hopes to end 2009 by selling a record-number of 5,000 pies, which will raise $100,000 to help fund its meal delivery and pantry services, and will prepare it for a momentous 2010. (619/233-6262, www.mamaskitchen.org)
