Meals-On-Wheels Superhero Soirée
Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego knocked out senior hunger during the 4th Annual Chef Appetizer Challenge and Superhero Soirée at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Overall, $200,000 was raised to ensure San Diego County homebound seniors receive the critical support they need to keep them well-nourished and at home. Guests cloaked in superhero costume enjoyed 11 appetizers from chefs all over the county, including Colin Murray of Brooklyn Girl Eatery, Mike Lina of Crush Solana Beach, and even Meals-on-Wheels’ own kitchen staff.
Chef Ivan Flowers of Top of the Market took home the “Chefy” award with his lobster bisque espresso with porcini mushroom infusion. Following silent auction bidding, guests were surprised by flash mob, Cstarproductionz, who kicked off the evening dancing to Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Longtime supporters John Pernicano, and Subaru of America, Inc. were honored, and Ford Motor Company presented Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego with a check for $31,500 for the third year in a row to pay for the organization’s van gas for a year! B of I Federal Bank was honored as Superhero Extraordinaire for their $15,000 sponsorship, which sent over 60 of Meals-on-Wheels staff and guests to the event, many for the first time. 360 guests raised over $45,000 during the Adopt-a-Senior portion of the evening by raising their bid cards. Gala co-chairs were Cici Stanley Jones and Kate Ledsam.
