Rare diamonds and jewelry — 4,000 carats in all — will dazzle through May 11 at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carlsbad. Coinciding with the debut of the book Dreams of Diamonds by Alastair Laidlaw and Christine Marsden, the exhibit showcases 25 pieces, from a flawless diamond briolette (50.5 carat, D color) to a pair of boots studded with 1,527 carats. “This exhibit is an ode to the wondrous world of diamonds,” says GIA museum curator Terri Ottaway, and includes designs from Adler, Chatila, Chow Tai Fook, Diacore, Diarough, Mouawad, and Munnu The Gem Palace. Admission is free but reservations are required. (800.421.7250, www.gia.edu)
