Toy Box of the Future

Toy Box of the Future

Everybody is cashing in on 3D printers these days, so why should the kids be left out. Mattel’s new ThingMaker 3D toy creator was unveiled just weeks ago at the New York City Toy Fair, proving to be a hit with the youngsters. A throwback to Mattel’s original ’60s-era toymaker, the ThingMaker obviously does much more than the original model, which merely spit out gooey bugs. With the ThingMaker you can design complex objects like figurines, jewelry, and accessories, and best of all, it utilizes a companion app, which Mattel developed together with Autodesk. ThingMaker will sell for $300 in a few months, but eager beavers can get in on the action now by preordering on the company’s Web site. Imagination is the only limit. mattel.com
