Youth Theater Shines

For the young and the young at heart, there are two delightful productions running through November 9. J Company Youth Theatre has opened its 22nd season with Disney’s Peter Pan with a cast of 88 young people and a crew of 15. Students involved in the show have been drawn from many different schools in the San Diego area. It’s being performed in the David and Dorothea Garfield Theatre at the Lawrence Family Center on the Jacobs Family Campus.

Based upon the much loved J.M. Barrie play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow up, and the novel Peter and Wendy, Peter Pan has sprung to life in myriad stage, film and TV productions, as well as parades and entertainment spectacles over the years. With so many favorite songs, it’s difficult to single out only a few, but just think of “You Can Fly,” “Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life for Me,” and “Your Mother and Mine.” You’ll be “hooked.” (858.457.3030, www.sdcjc.org/jc)

As part of San Diego Junior Theatre’s 66th season, The Addams Family is providing lots of laughs. This dysfunctional family has also had many lives in cartoons, other stage productions, films and television. But, as with Peter Pan, the material never bores. In this play, a thoroughly abnormal family hosts a dinner for a daughter’s completely normal boyfriend and the results are hilarious. This show is a SDJT premiere and is recommended for youngsters ten and older. (619.239.1311, www.juniortheatre.com)   DARLENE G. DAVIES
