The Nutcracker Auditions

Published

Actors ages three and up are invited to be a part of the magic that surrounds the holidays with Scripps Performing Arts Company’s critically acclaimed production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker to be held at The Grand Del Mar. A smaller child-friendly version will be performed with a Holiday Afternoon Tea on December 19-22. Additional full-length performances will be held at the Scripps Ranch High School Theatre in Scripps Ranch.

“Our holiday production allows both children and adults the opportunity to be involved in the making of this classic tale,” says Angela Amoroso, founder and artistic director of Scripps Performing Arts Company, a nonprofit organization that raises money for Isabella’s Giraffe Club
to benefit the UCSD Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and supports bereaved parents in San Diego County. “We are thrilled to have The Grand Del Mar as a new performance venue. Their participation will add a grand new holiday tradition for families in San Diego.”

Amoroso also encourages adults to volunteer for the many behind-the-scenes jobs and activities. Auditions will be held on September 25, and October 2 and 9 at Scripps Performing Arts Academy at 11777 Sorrento Valley Road in Carmel Valley and again on September 26 at Scripps Performing Arts Academy located at 9920 Scripps Lake Drive, Suite 104 in San Diego. Auditions are held by appointment only but every dancer who auditions is guaranteed a part.

To prepare for The Nutcracker performance, all cast members need to be enrolled in a ballet class either at the Scripps Performing Arts Academy from October through December or somewhere in San Diego.  All ages and all levels of technique are welcome. Those not wishing to perform, but who still want to experience the thrill of being a part of this longtime community event, are encouraged to volunteer and participate behind the scenes.

For 19 years, The Nutcracker served as a fundraiser for the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center. More than $20,000 was raised by past productions. For the past four years, The Nutcracker and other performances by Scripps Performing Arts Company have raised an incredible $70,000 for Isabella’s Giraffe Club, including inspiring a $400,000 donation directly to the UCSD Medical Center Infant Special Care Center from the San Diego Nice Guys Organization.
