Mainly Mozarts Milestone Year

Published

Mainly Mozart celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The group is launching a celebration commencing this month. Included in this special year will be farewell festival concerts in May and June led by famed conductor David Atherton (founding music director and conductor), who is retiring following the 2013 Mainly Mozart Festival.

On January 11, the Spotlight Series, curated by Anne-Marie McDermott, kicks off at The Auditorium at TSRI in La Jolla at 7:30pm, and is repeated on the 13th at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Carlsbad at 2pm. That same evening, Mainly Mozart musicians perform at The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe. The artists for these concerts are among the most popular chamber music performers — Yura Lee, violinist; Cynthia Phelps, violist; and Peter Wiley, cellist.

In February, the Szymanowski Quartet will perform at the three venues on February 1, 2, and 3. There is much more in the months ahead, since the Spotlight Series runs from January through June. Chamber music, symphony concerts, talks, unique social events, and a gala — the months ahead promise many musical gifts. (619.239.0100, www.mainlymozart.org)
