Bringing Broadway

Published

Thanks to the expertise of Broadway/San Diego, the best of the New York theatre world is showcased at the downtown Civic Theatre. Here’s what’s in store in the months ahead: The beloved Les Miserables runs only the first two days of September. A new production of Jekyll & Hyde, starring Constantine Maroulis, takes the stage October 2-7. There are both new and familiar elements in a reworked production of the classic Peter Pan, starring the iconic Cathy Rigby, who is easily the performer most identified with the role. The new Peter Pan will be in the Civic Theatre November 13-18. The New York Times said: “Rigby still carries off the flights, fights, and acrobatics that make Peter Pan audiences mesmerized.” The acclaimed Billy Elliot will be here in spring 2013, followed by American Idiot. It’s predicted Billy Elliot will be in great demand, so either line up early for tickets or subscribe to the entire season to ensure inclusion of this hot-ticket item. The season also includes a spirited production of Sister Act in summer 2013. (888/937-8995, www.broadwaysd.com)    DARLENE G. DAVIES
