The 36th annual Rendezvous In The Zoo (RITZ) was chaired by long-time RITZ patrons, Sue and John Major. The event netted nearly $2 million, which will be matched by the $15 million Rady Challenge, generously committed by Evelyn and Ernest Rady in support of the new Denny Sanford Children’s Zoo. The Chameleons brass band set a festive tone at the entrance as partygoers were greeted by costumed stilt walkers below the 27-foot-tall Rex the lion bronze statue. Conservation ambassador Joan Embery and several keepers and trainers provided close-up encounters with a variety of animal ambassadors. Guests entered the dinner area under a canopy wildly draped with lime green zebra print fabric panels and lit by a multi-tiered chandelier. The three-course dinner menu was created by executive chef Jon Palsson and the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina.
