The great trumpeter Wynton Marsalis is back with the Lincoln Center Orchestra at the Balboa Theatre on October 3, under the auspices of the La Jolla Music Society. Highlighted is Marsalis’ composition Spaces, which features dancers Lil Buck and Jared Grimes. Then, as part of the LJMS Piano series, Seong-Jin Cho performs the music of J.S. Bach, Schubert, Chopin, and Mussorgsky on October 18. Cho is highly regarded as a pianist of distinction throughout the world, having won First Prize at Warsaw’s Chopin International Competition in 2015. Next month, the renowned dance troupe Pilobolus performs at the Spreckels Theatre. There will be two performances on November 10, at 2pm and 8pm. Pilobolus has fired the imagination of dance fans for many years and for good reason — performances are always unusual and innovative. The company will perform Shadowland, a work that employs rapidly paced multimedia and modern dance to create unique images. 858.459.3728, ljms.org   Darlene G. Davies
