February 3, 2018 | CPMA Performing Arts Theatre

The Jonathan Tarr Foundation presents San Diego Aloha By the Bay, a multi-cultural, inter-generational, and educational event taking place from 6-8:30pm. The event will feature music and dance performances representing various Pacific Islander communities including the Van Kiep Lion Dancers, Heali i Polynesian Revue, Leina ala Olsen-Cibulka, Guma Imahen Taotao Tano, AB Samahan, Pacific Islander Festival Association Miss PIFA Court, Taupou Samoa Dance Troupe, F.A.B. and Dance Studio Poway – David Fan and Evelyn Kheo Pro/AM Dance Duo.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Jonathan Tarr Foundation, a nonprofit organization that recognizes the potential and rewards the determination of students from non-traditional and traditional high schools. Currently celebrating its 20th anniversary, JTF has provided $400,000 and 500 scholarships to seniors graduating from 85 high schools, representing 19 school districts in San Diego, Imperial, and Orange Counties.

The Jonathan Tarr Foundation was established in 2001 in memory of Jonathan Tarr who died in a tragic auto accident at the age of 17. Tarr attended a non-traditional high school offering alternative education curriculum, and although he did not live long enough to fulfill his dreams, his legacy lives on through the Windows of Opportunity Scholarships, workshops, and resources provided to middle to underserved students not usually targeted for academic assistance with post secondary education.

This year’s Aloha by the Bay will recognize Founder Robin J. Tarr who has been a pivotal force in helping the organization grow since its inception. Robin has announced her retirement in 2018, and the event will recognize Robin for her achievements over the past two decades.

Tickets are $25, or $75 for VIP. 760.815.7795, jonathantarrfoundation.org
