West Elm, known for unique modern furniture and home décor, is now open in the Cedros Design District just in time for holiday shopping. The chain designs most of its inventory in-house and is committed to products that are organic, handcrafted, and sustainably sourced. Besides furniture, the store stocks bedding, window dressings, wall art and mirrors, tabletop and outdoor items, and gifts galore. There is also a selection of 14 products crafted by artists and artisans based in California, including beach and surf-themed prints designed by Solana Beach artist and surfer Andy Davis. Store Manager Philipa Wilkes will add more “local makers” in the future, saying, “We’re always looking for local talent.” Why did the Brooklyn-based brand open in Solana Beach? “It’s the neighborhood and group of people we want to associate with,” says the company’s Dru Ortega, who describes West Elm as a “design-minded, collaborative brand” that aims to “complement rather than compete” with local stores. 858.350.3769, westelm.com
