Wings Of Kilimanjaro

Published

San Diegans Jason and Danielle Kinch are preparing for an adventure of a lifetime that will take place February 5, 2013. The Kinches will join other world-class athletes in climbing Africa’s tallest free-standing mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro, launching from the summit, and “gliding” through the air in the name of charity. Each pilot is expected to raise $5,000, which will be invested back into Tanzania with a focus on environmental, education, and health programs. San Diego-based nonprofit Plant With Purpose is one of the beneficiary organizations. Proceeds will allow Plant With Purpose to further its holisticdevelopment work in 38 communities around Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The planting of trees is essential to local microclimates, especially in light of studies that show a connection between deforestation and the loss of glaciers that cap the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Scott Sabin, executive director of Plant with Purpose, says, “Through raising awareness and funds, Wings of Kilimanjaro will join us in healing the land and empowering local people. Thanks to their efforts, more than just these pilots will be able to soar in 2013.” (www.wingsofkilimanjaro.com)
