6th Annual Survivor Beach

Published

On Sunday, June 10, from 8-10am, at Scripps Pier and continuing down La Jolla Shores, hundreds of surfers, cancer survivors, and supporters will try to create a record-breaking line of surfboards to show their support for the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center and the ongoing battle against cancer. Last year, 200 people made a surfboard line of 1,674 feet — more than five football fields long. This year, organizers hope to top that length, which will require more than 180 surfboards. The person to bring the most surfboards for the line-up will receive a special prize. Heali’i’s Polynesian Revue will perform authentic dances as part of the program, and Rob Mehl will sing original, surf-inspired songs. Survivor Beach participants will receive commemorative souvenirs and have a chance to win a pair of tickets to the 19th annual UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center Luau and Longboard Invitational, which will take place Sunday, August 19. Survivor Beach is free and open to the public; register online. (survivorbeach.eventbrite.com)
