Cirque du Soleil returns with Totem, its latest big top production, premiering April 26 for a limited engagement under the grand chapiteau at Del Mar Fairgrounds. Written and directed by Robert Lepage, Totem traces the fascinating journey of the human species, from its primitive amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. Between science and legend, the show looks at the ties between man and other creatures, dreams and infinite potential. The characters evolve on stage evoking a giant turtle, the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations. San Diego will be Totem’s only Southern California stop in 2012. The show runs through May 27. (www.cirquedusoleil.com/totem)
