The San Diego History Center, formerly the San Diego Historical Society, continues to bustle with activity in spite of the recent resignation of executive director David Kahn. It’s the home of myriad stories, images, and that which connects us to one another.

San Diego’s African American ‘Hair-itage’: Self Awareness & Cultural Acceptance is scheduled
for September 13. A talk and video clips of people speaking about various changes in hairstyles over the years promises serious commentary as well as humor. September 14, enjoy a lovely Summer Supper at the Serra Museum where Frances McMeeken will speak about the Senora Juana Machado Quilt Project, a work in progress. The Old Town quilt is a reproduction of the original one, owned by SDHC. Also at the Serra — a Guitar Through the Ages Concert on September 18.

History for Half Pints on September 19 and a lecture and booksigning for Wyatt Earp in San Diego on September 20 typify the wide range of subjects served by the History Center. Ongoing through October are interesting lectures about San Diego history by Gabe Selak, who traces stories of indigenous people, tells of Helen Hunt Jackson and her authorship of Ramona, and discusses early resorts in San Diego through 1917, stopping along the way to describe the 1915 Exposition in Balboa Park.
