10,000 Volunteers

Published

Recruitment has kicked off and United Way of San Diego County is challenging 10,000 locals to volunteer as readers, tutors, and mentors for the county’s youth over the next three years. Nationwide, United Way is seeking one million volunteers towards its goal of dramatically reducing the country’s high school dropout rate by 2018. “We are sending out a call to all San Diegans, especially local businesses, to assist our children from the early years through high school,” notes Doug Sawyer, UWSD president/CEO. Randolph E. Ward, EdD, County Superintendent, adds, “Kids spend only 20 percent of their time in school, so it’s important that they have extra support beyond the classroom.” Sign up online.
