Haiti Houses

Published

Students from Murray Alternative High School, Vista High School, Washington Middle School, and The California Center for the Arts, Escondido have created tiny house-shaped collages from cardboard, markers, beads, and other materials to symbolize hope for the children of Haiti. Each little house is a one-of-a-kind art piece, signed by its creator and has a pin or magnet attached to the back. Each Haiti House will be sold for $5 and all money will be donated to UNICEF to help in the earthquake relief efforts. The Florida art teachers who initiated the Pinwheels for Peace project informed art teachers Susan Clark, Carolyn Thom, Heather Williams, and Jane LaFazio of the project. The four local teachers have collaborated with ideas and marketing strategies. The students are proud of their results and feel good that they can help the people of Haiti in some way. Some have said they want to buy their own pieces. (www.haitihouses.org)
