SD Rep Sensations

Published

It’s not easy to mount a show as terrific as its recent production of Boom, but San Diego Rep is going for the gold by scheduling Culture Clash in AmeriCCa and A Weekend with Pablo Picasso in rapid-fire succession. Culture Clash is already up and running through March 7. This is the comedic group’s latest riff on the disparate and wide-ranging dreams of Americans, all voicing their radically different views of the USA while co-existing in the same dynamic country. The next show, A Weekend with Pablo Picasso, involves Herbert Siguenza of Culture Clash, who will sing, dance, paint, draw, sculpt, clown, and deliver impersonations. Siguenza began his artistic life as a visual artist. Along the way, he developed acting and writing skills, and in Pablo Picasso he draws on all three talents to invite audiences into Picasso’s studio for an imagined weekend. This is a workshop production in the Lyceum Space, opening March 21 and closing April 11. (619/544-1000, www.sdrep.org)   DARLENE G. DAVIES
