Tomlin Takes The Stage

Published

Lily Tomlin will perform at the beautifully restored Balboa Theatre on Thursday, January 28. Through films, television programs, and stage productions, this charming and hilarious comedienne has left her mark on generations. Who can forget the one-of-a-kind Laugh In characters she created? Or her performances in Nashville and Nine to Five? More recently, she was a regular on The West Wing. She has also been a great friend to The Old Globe, having served as co-chair with actor Christopher Reeve of its yearlong 50th anniversary. That year, in 1985, she also took time to deliver a beautifully crafted speech at the official opening of the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre. On the 28th, Tomlin will recreate such timeless characters as Ernestine, Mrs. Beasley, and Edith Ann. What a treat. (619/570-1100, www.sdbalboa.org)   DARLENE G. DAVIES
