The Evolution Of Art

Published

Known as the “jeweler to the stars,” Martin Katz adorns Hollywood’s most celebrated celebrities including Sharon Stone, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock, and Kate Winslet, to name but a few, who gracefully wear his one-of-a-kind creations at red carpet events including the Oscars and Emmys. Having perfected the miniature, micro-setting technique that he’s become known for, Katz is highly sought-after by those who know and appreciate the quality and originality of his work.

Katz’s collection includes pieces that convey symbolic, nature-inspired motifs such as the captivating eggplant-inspired amethyst pendant featured here. This piece boasts a 75.99-carat amethyst briolette (rarely seen at this size and quality), a bale accented with 480 sparkling stones, and a four-sided 41-inch chain featuring 1,974 stones totaling more than 25 carats.

With a new showroom in Rancho Santa Fe under the direction of longtime friend and fellow jeweler John Matty, Katz’s modern and vintage-inspired masterpieces are now accessible without the trip to Beverly Hills or New York City. With a passion for top-tier stones and a behind-the-scenes approach, Matty has scoured the globe for more than 20 years in search of the best diamonds to sell to a number of the finest stores. The alliance between Katz and Matty is proving to be the perfect setting in which to offer Katz’s timeless, striking pieces to San Diego’s affluent and well-heeled fashionistas.

“Our partnership came together after years of working together, trusting each other, and having a mutual love of the gems and finished jewelry — our passion,” explains Matty. “Being friends helps us provide our clients with a better product and a better experience because we still each have our own perspective.”

Available by appointment at a private showroom in Rancho Santa Fe Plaza, Katz and Matty work one-on-one with customers to bring their visions to life. By having a personal relationship with their clientele, they are best able to understand personal tastes and styles when embarking upon the design process.
