11th Annual Trolley Dances

Published

On September 26-27 and October 3-4, Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater once again teams up with the Metropolitan Transit System for the 11th Annual Trolley Dances. Led by volunteer guides, audience members get on and off the trolley at specific stations to view the pieces, which are set in unexpected outdoor locations. Each of the participating choreographers has selected a site along the route and created a new piece that responds to the physical environment or interprets the culture, history, or intended use of the location. This year, the site-specific dance project travels to South Bay. Patrons will have a unique opportunity to visit the U.S. side of the San Ysidro border crossing — the world’s busiest port of entry, offering a fascinating glimpse into a gateway of tourism and commerce that is crossed by over thousands daily.

Trolley Dances will visit various unique locations along the trolley line with stops/performances at E Street, Palomar Street, and the San Ysidro Transit Center. The first tour of each day will include a bilingual tour guide. Tickets are $30, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students, and include a free all-day trolley pass with advance purchase. Children under five and people in wheelchairs are free. (619/225-1803, www.sandiegodancetheater.org)
