Movie Mania

Published

Movie Mania returns to Liberty Station throughout the entire month of August. The lineup of films is intriguing because it reveals no central pattern or theme other than pure entertainment that is sure to please. There are five scheduled movie events, each in a different location within Liberty Station. Grease is first up on August 1, with Kung Fu Panda next on August 8, followed by Field of Dreams on August 15, and Sea Biscuit on August 22. The final film on the 29th will be a viewers’ choice. Meanwhile, over at the downtown location of the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, a different kind of film fest will be taking place on the 27th of this month. It’s the seventh annual alt.pictureshows, which bills itself as a diverse cinematic funhouse for the evening. Guests can pop in and out of rooms as inclined, taking in the many types of films, from comedies to documentaries. It will be a night of micro-cinema, which encourages “physical channel surfing.” More than 20 short films will be featured, including several that were shown at the Sundance Film Festival this year. There will be plenty to see and do. (www.mcasd.org)   DARLENE G. DAVIES
