Generations Of Giving

Published
The Peckham and Viterbi families have donated a combined $16 million to support cancer programs and the new Patient Care Pavilion now under construction at Rady Children’s Hospital. Nancy and Peter Peckham’s long commitment to Children’s Hospital began more than 40 years ago, but became even more personal when grandson Matthew was diagnosed with cancer. Matthew’s mother, Lisa, founded family support groups and father, Michael, serves as a trustee on the Rady Foundation Board. Matthew is now a junior at Santa Clara University. In recognition of gifts totaling $10 million, the hospital’s hematology/oncology program will be named in the Peckhams’ honor. The Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders will provide advanced care for children with cancer.

The center’s outpatient clinic will be named in honor of the Viterbi Family, which donated
$6 million. Andrew J. Viterbi co-founded Qualcomm, and last year received the National Medal of Science. Viterbi and his wife, Erna, have three grown children.   ANDREA NAVERSEN
