Homeowners Mike and Pam Moore purchased the property at 155 27th Street in Del Mar inspired to construct an architectural masterpiece they could be proud of. To develop their vision, they brought in architect Dean Meredith, AIA, along with contractor Laura Parker of Del Mar Restoration, to create a stunning structure suited for the beach community.
“My goal was to design a home that was sculpted and carved like a piece of fine art or furniture set within the landscape,” says Meredith. He designed the 3-bedroom, 2½-bath home in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright with a twist of Green & Green craftsman design, using horizontal overlapping roof planes and sloped copper roofs, Honduras Mahogany windows, doors, and staircase, as well as a ledger stone and stucco exterior.
Entering through the beautiful offset-pivot mahogany front door adorned with geometric stained glass, natural stone floors unify the kitchen, living room, and dining room, and continue outside to the patio. The open floor plan maximizes available square-footage with bright rooms that visually share exterior space through floor-to-ceiling wood-framed glass doors, while still affording privacy and quiet. Custom wood soffits provide dramatic lighting and carry beautiful craftsman detailing throughout the home.
Carrie Quinn, ASID, and Kelly Ivaska of Maison Luxe provided the furniture and décor, implementing a beach chic feel using natural textiles in off-white, sea green, and pale blue to complement the rich wood tones. Focal points include abstract paintings by Bradford Stewart, potted plants by Shirley Mulloy of Garden Gatherings, and a fireplace with a mahogany mantel. Seashells, corals, and succulents complete the décor’s seaside essence.
In the kitchen, cherry wood cabinetry from Folio in Del Mar complements a black granite countertop and top-of-the-line energy efficient appliances. Indoor living space is integrated seamlessly with the outdoors with a wall of slide-and-stack doors that provide easy access to the pool, Jacuzzi, and barbeque station, complete with stainless steel amenities.
Upstairs, a large deck offers an ocean view and provides the perfect space for entertaining, with private access from the second floor landing as well as the stunning master suite.
The home is currently listed at $7.5 million with Kim Filanc and Benny Landman of Coldwell Banker, including furnishings and artwork. (858/243-1477, 619-246-5180) RINA VAN ORDEN
