It’s autumn, the time of brilliant color, crisp apples and pears, and new, distinctive wines to challenge the palate. La Jolla Playhouse (LJP) patrons are as discerning and adventuresome about good wine as they are about plays, so, for each show of the 2009/2010 subscription season, LJP has conspired with the San Francisco-based winemaker Crushpad to create a wine imbued with the spirit of, and named for, each production. Catch up by acquiring wines for Unusual Acts of Devotion, Restoration, Herringbone, Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps, and the current Creditors (continuing through October 25). Look forward to Bonnie & Clyde wine. A special gala wine will be created for the premium level tables at the March 6, 2010 event.
Crushpad is donating all the proceeds from wine sales to LJP, which sets up tasting tables at every opening night to provide tantalizing previews of each unique wine. Wines are available for purchase online. (858/550-1010, www.lajollaplayhouse.org/playhouse-wines) DARLENE G. DAVIES
