April’s featured wine is Ravenswood’s 2006 Pickberry. Planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this vineyard is located on the slopes of Sonoma Mountain. The story goes that Pickberry Vineyard got its name by the then two-year-old daughter of the vineyard owners, who always wanted to pick the irresistible “blackberries” that grow on the property. The pickberry fruit (really grapes not blackberries) produce an opulent, berry-saturated Bordeaux-style wine. Fresh plum, red currant, and mint meet shades of sweet vanilla and cacao nib. Cheers.
