Downtown’s historic US Grant Hotel is celebrating its 100th anniversary this month. To prepare for the milestone, mixologist and sommelier Jeff Josenhans partnered with High West Distillery to create a special Manhattan cocktail — a fully integrated blend made of Utah rye whiskey, Alpine French vermouth, and premium old-fashioned bitters that is currently aging for exactly 100 days. (The Manhattan was chosen as the anniversary cocktail because it reflects pre-Prohibition taste and is a nod to the time period in which the hotel was built.) On October 16, at a special celebration in the Grant Grill, Josenhans will serve his Centennial Cocktail to the public for the very first time. Other specialty cocktails will also be served, including the Albert Einstein (Aquavit white cranberry vodka, cranberry bitters, fresh lime, white cranberry and juniper berry seltzer), and the Christina Aguilera (Briottet Chestnut Liqueuer, cold buttered Bulleit Bourbon, graham cracker rim). Make it an overnighter and take advantage of not-to-be-missed 100th anniversary room packages as detailed below. (619/232-3121, www.usgrant.net)
