Newly opened in Encinitas, the very cute and stylish East Village Asian Diner offers a light and healthy mix of Korean, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine. “We are not your typical Chinese restaurant,” says owner and cook Daniel Bohlen (also of The Pantry in Rancho Santa Fe). “Our meats, seafood, and tofu are grilled, never crusted.” As for the décor, Bohlen wanted an atmosphere that was super high-tech and retro. “I like the ’80s robots and space invaders that remind me of Japan,” he says. Open for lunch and dinner, expect friendly service paired with great dishes priced from $8 to $13 as well as beers on tap, sake, and wine.
