Recently, I’ve noticed there are many drinks and even foods that are made with the pomegranate fruit. A native of the Middle East, the pomegranate is a berry that provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory flavonoids and carotenoids. Pomegranate trees are beautiful, easy to grow, and can live for many years. Try planting one in the warmest, sunniest part of your yard in well-drained ordinary soil, or in a decorative pot on your outdoor patio. About the size and shape of a large orange with a thick, leathery skin, pomegranates should be crimson red. To eat, cut the fruit in half, remove the sweet, juicy, ruby-colored seeds inside, and enjoy!    MARIA DESIDERATA MONTANA
