Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy the outdoors with your furry friends. A few quick reminders can help keep a fun season from becoming a tragic disaster. It may seem obvious, but it merits repeating — never leave your pet in the car while you run errands, even for “just a minute.” Even with the windows cracked or parked in the shade, the inside of a car can reach 120 degrees within minutes. If you do happen to see a pet in a car alone during the hot summer months, alert authorities immediately. Heat stroke and sunburn are also real dangers. Limit exercise to early morning or evening hours to avoid high heat and burning asphalt. Don’t forget the sunscreen on light-colored noses and ears during the day. Make sure you both have plenty of fresh water. Prepare your pooch with a collar and ID tag that includes your name, address and telephone number, and enjoy the best part of the year together.
