For the first time ever, a Rancho Santa Fe Little League team has won the District 31 tournament. Little League District 31 is composed of 14 leagues including Solana Beach, Del Mar, Poway, and Encinitas. Under the direction of manager Kirk McCaskill, former Major League pitcher for the Anaheim Angels, and coach Steve Goena, the 9-10-year-old team committed to practicing daily, Monday through Saturday. After numerous thrilling victories, the team’s incredible summer experience came to a close in the Division III championship in San Bernardino when they were defeated by the team that eventually won the Southern California title. McCaskill reflects, “They’ve accomplished something that no other Ranch team has, and something they will never forget. There were so many moments that are burned into my mind. The way these guys bonded and learned to compete was great. We know this is a real boost for our league, and I hope this inspires our younger players to believe they can accomplish their goals in the future.”   MIA STEFANKO
