Summer is the perfect time to fix your pet — before another litter happens. SNAP (the Spay/Neuter Action Project) will alter pet dogs or cats on the Neuter Scooter — a mobile, veterinarian-staffed clinic bus that also offers flea treatments and rabies shots for dogs over four months old.

In addition to the mobile spay/neuter outreach, SNAP and the Feral Cat Coalition (FCC) are partnering to establish a much-needed resource for San Diego County — the Spay Station, a permanent, high-volume spay/neuter clinic. According to SNAP, most people don’t realize that although S.D. has made great strides in the last two decades, over 50,000 animals still entered the 14 shelters/agencies located in the county last year, and that currently $35 million dollars is spent by these shelters annually. Over 17,000 animals have been fixed on the Neuter Scooters in the last five years and FCC has fixed over 30,000 in the last 20 years. (866/772-9287, www.snap-sandiego.org)   JANE SHIOMI
