Drew Brees was in town recently for a media kickoff event at Morgan Run Resort & Club to celebrate the 2010 Cox Celebrity Championship hosted by Drew Brees. Formerly known as the Celebrity Classic hosted by Stan Humphries, the event will feature over 50 celebrity golfers competing for a $100,000 purse. The 12th annual event will also crown the best celebrity golfer in the United States. Event dates are May 20-23.

 

Long one of San Diego County’s premier sports hospitality events, the Cox Celebrity Championship consists of a two-day Celebrity-Amateur tournament (May 21-22), nightly sponsor parties (May 20-22), and the main event — a 36-hole celebrity competition (May 22-23). As part of Cox Communications’ title sponsorship, Cox’s locally-based TV station, Channel 4 San Diego, will produce a one-hour special featuring the tournament’s marquee event — the 36-hole, low-gross celebrity-only competition, and televise it throughout the summer.

 

Since its inception the tournament has raised over one million dollars for local charities including Rady Children’s Hospital.  This year, a percentage of ticket sales, auction proceeds and sponsor sales will be donated to the Brees Dream Foundation to support its ongoing efforts in San Diego.

 

The Brees Dream Foundation was founded in 2003 by Brittany and Drew Brees with a mission to advance research in the fight against cancer and provide care, education, and opportunities for children in need. Since its inception, the Brees Dream Foundation has committed more than $5,000,000 to charitable causes and academic institutions in the New Orleans, West Lafayette/Purdue, and San Diego communities.

• Saturday, Saturday, May 22 — Final Round Celebrity-Amateur Tournament/First Round Cox Celebrity Championship
• Sunday, May 23 — Final Round Cox Celebrity Championship (celebrities only)

• Children — free admission for children 10 and under
