US Navy Capt. Don Walsh joined guests at Rolex South Coast Plaza to view a replica of the submersible bathyscaph Trieste and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the January 23, 1960 dive of Walsh and Jacques Piccard, who piloted the submersible to a depth of approximately 36,000 feet. The Rolex Deepsea timepiece, which accompanied the duo, also made and survived the expedition.
