On Sunday, January 30, from 1:30-4:30pm, an auction, fundraiser, and kids art show titled Hearts For Healing will take place at Heather Roddy Gallery in Flower Hill Promenade, showcasing paintings created by students in Mrs. Reeser’s 7/8 middle school art class at R. Roger Rowe School in Rancho Santa Fe. It is the culmination of the 3rd “Hearts for Healing” Project. This is a wonderful event for the students. Their work will be displayed in a gallery setting where family, friends, and art collectors will have an opportunity to view and purchase their work.
Before the students even pick up a pencil they are told that they will be donating their paintings to enhance the healing environment and to help lift the spirits of people in their local hospitals and clinics. Creating something to help others and giving up their artwork is a unique and exciting concept for kids. Learning that they can make a difference in other people’s lives is a very empowering experience. Renowned professional fine artist Gerrit Greve, Hearts for Healing founder and director, is the creative force behind the project. As part of his instruction, Gerrit encouraged his students to “give with their hearts.” The students learn that art can be more than an exercise in self-expression; it can also become a powerful tool for communication and change. In their paintings, we see not only an expression of how the students interpret a giving heart, but how they master the fine art skills of laying down paint, design elements, composition, color theory, and, perhaps most importantly, how they convey their heartfelt thought behind their work.
A “Hearts for Healing” book has also been compiled featuring all the artists and their work. To preview the book please visit www.blurb.com/books/1908523.
