Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is teaming up with Quality Social for the organization’s third annual nationwide shave-a-thon. On Saturday, March 12, San Diegans will gather at the downtown hotspot to shave their heads to generate awareness and fund research for childhood cancer and help give survivors a chance at long and healthy lives.
Last year’s shave-a-thon was a stunning success, drawing a crowd of over 100 guests, including 27 shavees. Led by San Diego chapter co-founders Jake Pescatello and P.K. Marshall, the past two events have generated more than $25,000 in charitable donations for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and for the third year, the hope is to raise that contribution to $50,000.
“The momentum behind the event’s first two years is a testament to our community’s commitment and support of this important cause,” saysPescatello. “So many people have been affected by cancer at some point in their lives that they start to want to feel that they are able to make a difference in the fight against the disease. St. Baldrick’s gives volunteers a way to fight back against cancer in a fun way, we see that in the growth of the event each year.”
In addition to the entertainment of a shaving soiree, guests will enjoy complimentary passed appetizers and drink specials, including $3 Picklebacks, $3 brown bag PBR, and $5 well drinks. Live music and a silent auction will add to the excitement, with amazing prizes ranging from relaxing spa treatments to two-night stays at some of Southern California’s most luxurious hotels. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the afternoon will go directly to St. Baldrick's Foundation.
The St. Baldrick’s Shave-a-thon begins at 12pm at Quality Social in Downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Head shaving will commence at 1pm. A $10 donation at the door includes complimentary appetizers, in addition to other food and drink specials. A $20 donation at the door includes the aforementioned food and drink specials, as well as a T-shirt and raffle ticket. (www.stbaldricks.org)
