On Thursday, November 19, at the Rancho Santa Fe home of John and Maria Assaraf, an African Thanksgiving event will take place to benefit the work of Just Like My Child Foundation and celebrate three years of saving lives and empowering women and children to achieve their true potential. The dinner party will feature special remarks by author, speaker, and global visionary Deepak Chopra, plus dance, live entertainment, and scrumptious dining highlighting the rhythm, the fabric, and the flow of Africa. Founded by San Diego resident Vivian Glyck, Just Like My Child works in a community of 600,000 people and 48 villages in central Uganda. The foundation raises money through grants and donations for education, healthcare, and microfinance projects that involve communities in creating permanent social change. Glyck established Just Like My Child after the birth of her first child, Zak, when she realized that every mother loves her children and every child deserves opportunity. “As a mother, I see that what really makes the difference in a child’s life is how much their mother can be involved and how much their mother can be an advocate for them,” she says. “If you can help a woman to find her voice, she can educate herself, gain financial independence, and advocate for her children.” Attendance is limited to 250 people. Regular tickets are $150 per person. A VIP reception can be attended for $400 per person. For further information please contact Ruthie Espanol. (619/403-6806) JANE SHIOMI
