Promises2Kids, formerly the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation, presents its 8th annual fundraising event, Chefs and Champions for Kids — A Benefit for Promises2Kids, on Saturday, October 24, at the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. Titled Capture the Magic, the benefit gala and magical-themed evening will feature food stations and cocktails from award-winning chefs, mimes, and magic tricks.

Promises2Kids will also celebrate its newest class of Champions at the event. The 2009 Champions for Kids Honorees include: Lifetime Champion (posthumous award) — Mary Goodall; Corporate Champion — Boyer Moving and Storage; Community Champion — San Diego Building Owners and Managers Association; and Volunteer Champion — Connie Fox.

“We are proud to recognize our 2009 Class of Honorees with a gourmet feast from some of San Diego’s finest chefs,” says Honorable Susan Golding, Promises2Kids’ president/chief executive officer. “The individuals and groups being honored are among the finest examples of our community’s commitment to support foster children here in San Diego County. They certainly have done their part to help these children become successful young men and women.”

Dinner and cocktails will begin at 6:30pm. Magicians and live entertainment will perform throughout the evening for guests. Evening activities include both live and silent auctions where guests can bid on exclusive packages such as artist memorabilia, international vacation packages, dining experiences at San Diego’s finest restaurants, and many more one-of-a-kind items. The evening’s nightcap will feature a speakeasy-style cigar bar and beverage reception for guests.

Featured restaurants and chefs for this premier event include: Acqua al 2, chef Martin Gonzalez; Barona Valley Ranch Resort and Casino, chef Dean Thomas; Café Japengo, chef Jerry Warner; Il Fornaio Coronado, chef partner Marco Nocco; Island Prime, executive chef Deborah Scott; Los Arcos Restaurant, chef Eduardo Angulo; The Monsoon Group, chef Vipin Kumar; Phil’s BBQ, chef Phil Pace; Polinsky Children’s Center, executive chef Isa Olloni; The Red Door Restaurant and Wine Bar, chef Brian Johnston; and The Steakhouse at Azul La Jolla, executive chef Steve Floyd.
