On Sunday, September 13, at 6pm, O2 For Life Rainforest Foundation presents a fundraising event at the Belly Up featuring The Mar Dels and the Terraplane Suns, along with Costa Rican cuisine by chef Israel Balderas, a no host bar, silent auction, and special guest speakers. “Student education is a big focus for us, as well as direct local community involvement,” notes Steve Blumkin, founder of O2 for Life and owner of locally-based Outrageous Rugs, International. “Some of the community events we’ve organized are recycling, planting indigenous trees, and an O2 For Life trail.” The organization hosts small groups of school-age students at the 500-acre rainforest reserve, immersing them in the diversity of life in the Osa region of Costa Rica. O2 For Life’s main purpose is to promote conservation awareness and the study of tropical nature among young people through hands-on field education at the reserve. General admission is $75; a donation of $250 or more secures two tickets and a reserved table. (www.o2forlife.org) JANE SHIOMI
