On Thursday, June 7, the Titanic Chef Throwdown Against Cystic Fibrosis makes its maiden voyage to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The historic evening launches from the decks of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at 6pm at the San Diego Natural History Museum, and features a fleet of top-ranked chefs, captained by San Diego Chef of the Year Michael McDonald. Why embark? The average cystic fibrosis (CF) patient takes 45 pills a day and loses lung capacity each year. Chef McDonald got involved to raise awareness for a personal reason: his four-year old son Connor has CF. On this one spectacular night, experience a modern interpretation of the eight-course dining menu of the RMS Titanic on the fateful night of April 14, 1912. The event will plot a course towards research advances to help the 70,000 CF heroes like Connor. In addition to McDonald, participating chefs include: Isabel Cruz (Barrio Star), Brian Malarkey (Gingham), Augustin “Augie” Saucedo (Sycuan Casino & Resorts), Scotty Wagner (24 Carrots), Bratzo Basagoitia (Café Secret), and Jennifer Muratore (The Elegant Truffle). Tickets are $250; seats are limited. Sponsorships are available. (858/452-2873, www.cffchefthrowdown.com)
