For the 42nd year, many of North County Coastal’s most generous community members and companies will come together on Friday, May 11, at La Costa Resort & Spa, to raise funds to rebuild the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA’s Skate Park.
As one of the community’s premier charity golf tournaments, Roof Raisers has come to raise millions of dollars over the years to build YMCA facilities that support the community’s growth and development such as the Y’s gymnasium, aquatic center, preschool, soccer fields, and more. This year’s Roof Raisers committee will celebrate the Skate Park project beneficiary by showcasing skate demonstrations on the La Costa property. The 42nd Annual Roof Raisers will also honor the life of longtime committee member and the YMCA’s first executive director, Rollie Ayers.
“He was a man of immense integrity whose tireless drive and spirit created a legacy in this community that will forever be honored,” says Susan Hight, executive director of Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA.
Funds raised at the event will directly benefit the renovation and expansion of the existing world-renowned Skate Park at the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA. This park has become the flagship of the skate industry and attracts over 19,000 annual visits including the world’s top pro skaters including Tony Hawk and Shaun White. The park’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean (with mainly wood features) and increased use have made it a prime candidate for expansion, renovation, and redesign to serve youth, teen, and adult skaters. The new park will instill values-based programming within the skate culture, provide a facility for skill development, keep skaters off dangerous streets, and promote exercising in a fun and athletic way.
The 42nd Annual Roof Raisers Committee, led by chairperson Robert Green, will host a fun-filled day of competitive golf on La Costa’s new Championship Course followed by an evening of live and silent auctions, legendary prize drawings, and a live sponsorship program.
“The Y is here to change lives and give back to this community, and we have been doing it for over 50 years,” states Hight. “With the help of last year’s Roof Raisers Committee and all of its generous supporters, we were able to complete the renovation and expansion of our Y Preschool. The new nine-classroom preschool has given almost 200 preschool students a new environment in which to learn, grow, and thrive.”
Roof Raisers’ longevity is a testament to both its success and impact on the community. With over three buildings built, an Aquatic Center, soccer fields, and next a skate park, Roof Raisers is essential to providing places for generations of all ages in our community to grow and develop.
2012 Roof Raisers sponsors include Pacific Premier Bank, UCSD San Diego Health System, The Robert Green Company, The Ecke Family, Rollie Ayers Memorial Fund, Don & Dragon Sherman, Procopio, North Coast Y Service Club, RPM Mortgage, Bell Anderson & Sanders LLC Real Estate, Don Hubbard Contracting Co., La Costa Resort & Spa, Pacific Building Group and ViaSat.
